Earlville, Seneca, Newark and Fieldcrest boys earn wins

Girls basketball

Marquette 44, Putnam County 34: At Bader Gymnasium, the Crusaders defeated the Panthers in the Tri-County Conference game.

Hunter Hopkins led Marquette with 14 points, while Kaitlyn Davis posted 12 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Manteno 62, Streator 37: At Pops Dale Gymnasium, the visiting Panthers led 16-9 after one quarter, 34-19 at halftime and 46-32 heading to the fourth in the Illinois Central Eight Conference win over the Bulldogs (0-12, 0-4).

Streator was led by Ava Gwaltney with 16 points with Isabel Gutierrez adding seven points and nine rebounds, and Maddy Martin chipping in six points.

St. Bede 48, Seneca 35: At Seneca, the Fighting Irish (8-3, 5-1) were outscored 13-3 in the third quarter in the TCC loss to the Bruins. The game was tied 19-all at halftime.

Seneca was led by 10 points each from Alyssa Zellers and Audry McNabb while Lainie Olson added five points.

Somonauk-Leland 56, Newark 27: At Newark, the Bobcats moved to 2-1 in Little Ten Conference action with the win over the Norsemen.

Macey Kinney (12 assists), Kiley Mason, Abby Hohmann and Leah Norris combined for 44 points for S-L.

Fieldcrest 51, Heyworth 34: At Minonk, the Knights improved to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in Heart of Illinois Conference play with the win over the Hornets.

Macy Gochanour led Fieldcrest with 18 points. TeriLynn Timmerman added 15 points and Pru Mangan eight points for the hosts.

Boys basketball

Earlville 35, IMSA 33: At Earlville, the Red Raiders recorded their first win of the season with the LTC victory over the Titans.

Easton Fruit had 13 points for Earlville (1-9, 1-2), Adam Waite added 12 points and six steals, and Adin Hensley recorded four steals.

Seneca 74, Putnam County 38: At Granville, the Fighting Irish improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in TCC action with the triumph over the Panthers.

Seneca was led by 19 points from Paxton Giertz, 16 from Cam Shriey and 12 from Brayden Simek with Grant Siegel adding nine.

Newark 53, Aurora Central Catholic 27: At Aurora, Dylan Long and Payton Wills each registered 19 points and eight rebounds to help lead the Norsemen to the win over the Chargers.

Cody Kulbartz added 10 points and eight rebounds for Newark, while Reggie Chapman chipped in five points, four rebounds and four assists.

Fieldcrest 77, Dwight 63: At Dwight, Jordan Heider’s 25 points helped lead the Knights to the victory over the Trojans.

Layten Gerdes had 19 points for Fieldcrest, with Ed Lorton adding 14 and Kash Klendworth chipping in 11.

Girls bowling

Ottawa 2,376, Streator 2,228: At Streator Elks Club, the Bulldogs fell short against the rival Pirates.

Streator was led by Lily Michael (506 series, 195 high game), Madi Bedeker (475, 170), Jenna Onasch (423, 155), Lyla Gengler (412, 147) and Lisa Lopez (412, 150).
