Streator man sentenced to 18 years in prison for shooting last year

Cross convicted of aggravated battery with firearm

Maurice Cross, of Streator, was sentenced to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Dec. 13 after being convicted of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Maurice L. Cross of Streator was sentenced on Dec. 13 to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after being convicted of aggravated battery with a firearm.

The charges stemmed from a shooting that occurred on July 15, 2023, on Carriage Lane in Streator.

Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene where two individuals had been shot. Cross was taken into custody on July 20, 2023, by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Indiana.

On Aug. 14, 2024, Cross was found guilty by Livingston County Court during a bench trial. In addition to the sentence, a judge also ordered Cross to pay restitution to the victims involved in the shooting.
