Utica adopts tax levy of $91,191

Levy to increase by less than 5%

A new sign reads North Utica Village Hall and Community Center in Utica on Wednesday Nov. 9, 2021. The Village purchased the former Waltham South School building last year and converted it into offices, meeting rooms and a community center. The building is about ninety percent complete and will be open officially at the beginning of 2022.

The Utica Village Board adopted a tax levy of $91,191, which was just less than the 5% limit allowed without a hearing under the Truth in Taxation Act.

Utica will boost its tax flow while also giving villagers a small rate cut. The upshot for Utica residents is the tax rate will slide by about 2 cents.

Mayor David Stewart last year paid the village about $110 in taxes – on a total tax bill of $4,246. If the projection holds, and if Stewart’s home value stays the same, he would pay $107 next spring.

Despite the tax rate decrease, property owners still may pay more on their tax bills if their property values are assessed higher.
