River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles to present monthly lecture series

Fourth annual “A River Flows Through It” lecture series will return in 2025

The City of St. Charles hired consultants  to conduct a Downtown Riverfront Property Feasibility Study this summer for the former police department site on the east bank of the Fox River.

In partnership with The Conservation Foundation and the St. Charles Park District, the River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles will host “A River Flows Through It…Life in the Fox Valley" lecture series.

The series will feature four monthly lectures starting in January on topics surrounding the Fox River Valley and the people and wildlife that shape its communities.

All lectures will be held at the Baker Community Center from 7 to 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. The lectures are free to attend, and registration is open now on the River Corridor Foundation website.

The lecture series schedule is as follows:

  • Jan. 15 – “The Fox” Lessons from a Local Legend: Friends of the Fox River president Gary Swick will talk about the activist who took on cleaning up the Fox River.
  • Feb. 19 – “Avian Adventures” A Guide to Identifying and Appreciating Birds of the Fox River Valley: Kane County Forest Preserve naturalist Josh Libman will lead the discussion.
  • March 19 – “A Road to Freedom” Kane County Anti-Slavery Society and the Underground Railroad: St. Charles History Museum collections manager Eric Krupa will discuss the role Kane County is said to have had with the Underground Railroad.
  • April 16 – “The Wild Mile” A Floating Eco-Park on the Chicago River: Urban Rivers research director Phil Nicodemus will explore the process of creating the world’s first floating eco-park.
