Batavia residents will see an 8% rate increase for sanitary sewer usage and a 3% rate increase for water on their utility bills in 2025.
The Batavia City Council approved two ordinances to amend city code to reflect the new rates at their Dec. 16 meeting.
According to a memo from public works director Gary Holmes, the rate increases were included in the 2025 budget in order to help fund several substantial sewer and water capital improvement projects budgeted for this year as well as additional projects anticipated in the near future.
The new monthly volume charges for sanitary sewer and water usage will be $6.00 per 100 cubic feet and $4.22 per 100 cubic feet, respectively.
The new fixed monthly charges for sanitary sewer usage are $5.63 for meters 3/4″ or smaller and $9.98 for 1″ meters. For water usage, the new fixed charges are $13.54 for meters 3/4″ or smaller and $18.82 for 1″ meters.
The new usage rates and fixed charges will be reflected in residents' first utility bills issued after Jan. 1, 2025.
The rate hikes were approved in an unanimous vote as part of the consent agenda without discussion.
