The Kaneland School District 302 board Monday approved putting a $140.3 million referendum on the April 1, 2025, consolidated election ballot to address repairs and renovations to its aging facilities.
The board’s decision reflects its commitment to addressing safety concerns, modernizing facilities and supporting the overall needs of students, staff and the community, according to a news release.
As part of the next steps, the district will engage with the community through town halls, school events and informational meetings where the community can ask questions and learn more about the proposed improvements, according to the release.
Officials detailed three scopes of work:
- $48.7 million for essential repairs, such as improvements to the infrastructure and mechanical systems, elementary schools' roof replacements, classroom and restroom upgrades and securing the high school entrance.
- $79.6 million for enhancing playgrounds, upgrading high school athletic facilities and relocating maintenance and transportation facilities near Kaneland Harter Middle School, 1601 Esker Drive, Sugar Grove.
- $12 million to construct a field house at the high school to support physical education, athletic and extracurricular programs, community use and for repurposing the West Gym to classroom spaces.
