The City of Aurora will launch the Aurora Gaming Series, featuring a competitive, head-to-head Rocket League® Tournament, from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at UTime Gamers inside the Fox Valley Mall, located at 195 Fox Valley Center Drive.
The event will showcase 16 different teams competing for a $500 grand prize and custom-designed trophy.
The list of teams features a top 0.3 percent Rocket League® player, along with participants from Aurora, Chicago, Naperville, Joliet, Plainfield, Montgomery, Westfield, Indiana and Houston, Texas, according to a news release from the city.
“The Aurora Gaming Series provides us with a great opportunity to engage our youth and further build a sense of community,” Aurora communications manager Jon Zaghloul said in the release. “We are looking forward to making history in the process, and becoming a hot spot for Esports throughout the Chicagoland area and beyond.”
The entire tournament will be live-streamed on Aurora Community Television, available to Aurora residents on Xfinity Channel 10 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, and on the city’s YouTube and Twitch accounts.
Additionally, the tournament will air from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, on the Marquee Sports Network.
The tournament marks the first-ever Esports event to air on the network.
