Four counts of first-degree murder have been authorized against a man in connection with the deaths of two in a fatal domestic violence incident in Geneva, officials announced in a news release.
Geneva police and Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser have not released the suspect’s name. He is being held pending the formal filing of charges, the release stated.
Police responded to a home in the 2700 block of Emma’s Way at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, and found two victims. They were both pronounced dead after being taken to area hospitals, the release stated.
Kane County Coroner Monica Silva said she could not provide any details about the victims, as the situation is an ongoing investigation.
“What I can says is that the neighborhood is safe,” Silva said.
The incident was isolated to the home, police said, and the suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
According to the release, the pending charges of first-degree murder are a Class M felony, punishable by a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, and the maximum is life in prison, if convicted.
The State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file a petition to deny pretrial release, the release stated.
Further updates will be provided once charges are filed and a detention hearing is held.
Mosser and Geneva Police Chief Eric Passarelli thank St. Charles police, Batavia police, the Sheriff’s Office, Geneva Fire Department and Geneva Emergency Management for their assistance with the initial response, and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force for its help with the investigation, the release stated.
