Holiday Tree Collection
Dispose of your live holiday tree with ease. Groot Industries will collect one tree per Batavia resident at no cost during the first two weeks of January on your regular collection day. No sticker is required during this period. Afterward, attach a refuse sticker to the tree for curbside pickup. Remember to remove all decorations, lights, and plastic bags. Live wreaths and garlands go with regular refuse. For more information, call City of Batavia Public Properties and Services at 630-454-2400.
Fox River Stabilization Project
Construction has begun on a segment part of the Fox River Stabilization Project, focusing on erosion and structural repairs south of the Wilson Street Bridge. This phase includes replacing a retaining wall, extending block wall terraces, and installing a rock toe. Expected to finish by March 2025, the project will temporarily close nearby sidewalks and bike paths, but alternative routes will remain open.
Protect Your Plumbing
Avoid frozen pipes this winter. Insulate pipes in unheated areas, let faucets drip during extreme cold, and open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate. Disconnect outdoor hoses, seal exterior cracks, and maintain indoor temperatures above 55 F if traveling. For added safety, consider shutting off and draining your water system (note: this may disable fire sprinklers). These steps can save you from costly repairs.
Water Main Breaks
If you notice water bubbling on streets or parkways, it could indicate a water main break. Report it to Batavia’s Water Division at 630-454-2450, or 630-454-2500 after hours. Crews will investigate, mark utilities, and begin repairs, which typically take 2–4 hours. If water appears discolored afterward, run cold water at the lowest faucet until it clears.
