Batavia police are still searching for the suspect who robbed the Batavia Speedway gas station at gunpoint early Monday morning.
Police responded to the Speedway at 1495 E. Wilson St. about 1:37 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred, according to a report from the Batavia Police Department.
The store clerk told officers that the robbery occurred just minutes before she called 911, police said.
The clerk told police at the scene that the suspect entered the gas station, presented a handgun and demanded money and lottery tickets, according to the report.
The clerk described the suspect as a male, about 40 years old, wearing a black parka style coat, a black ski mask over his face and gloves.
After the robbery, the suspect left the business and was last seen walking west from the area.
Batavia police officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. Deputies from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene and assisted in the search by deploying a drone and K-9, according to the report.
Police reported that no injuries occurred during the robbery and the suspect never made physical contact with the store clerk.
During the investigation, paramedics responded to the scene to evaluate the clerk following a traumatic experience.
