The Batavia Park Board of Commissioners officially approved a conceptual master plan for Harold Hall Quarry Beach during their meeting on Dec. 17, 2024, where Williams Architects presented the plan.
Developed over a year-and-a-half, the plan focuses on preserving and transforming the facility into a multi-generational, year-round space.
It includes an analysis of current structures, new programming ideas and stakeholder input, according to a news release from the Batavia Park District.
The park district initiated the plan as part of a broader effort to address repair, maintenance and development needs at the beach.
A facilities condition assessment will also help guide decisions on areas needing repair or replacement.
Although the board approved the concept, the approval does not yet authorize the start of the project.
“It is a master plan concept,” said Board President Patrick Callahan in the release. “It is the very beginning of having ideas on a page that will ultimately evolve into whatever direction we choose later.”
Key elements of the Hall Quarry Beach Master Plan Concept include:
- Conversion of the facility for year-round use
- Preservation of historic Works Progress Administration structures on-site
- Retention of the nostalgic Batavia charm
- Incorporation of nature-based themes across the campus with the addition of play structure
- Facility improvements, including the addition of: Temperature controlled ice skating/roller skating ribbon, multi-age splash pad, high-ropes course and more
“These are the amenities that the staff and designers have crafted based on community input,” Callahan said in the release. “These options are the best for the Quarry Beach renovations in a phased approach moving forward.”
The estimated cost for fully implementing the conceptual plan ranges in price, depending on market conditions and the timing of any future phases, according to the release.
The district does not have a funding plan for it but will evaluate and may pursue individual features on a case-by-case basis.
