St. Charles library to host 70s trio concert Jan. 19

St. Charles residents are invited to a groovy afternoon of music from the ’70s at the library on Jan. 19.

The St. Charles Public Library will host “Back to the Future ’70s Style!” a concert by vocalist Gavin Coyle, flutist Carlyn Lloyd and pianist Jon Warfel, as part of its Sunday Concert Series program.

The free concert will begin at 2 p.m. at the library at 1 S. Sixth St. The performance will feature the music of James Taylor, Seals and Crofts, Chicago, Elton John, and many others.

Coyle was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. At age 14, he won the title of All-Ireland Singing Champion and has performed on the BBC in Northern Ireland and England.

Locally, Coyle has been featured on WGN radio, performed at Milwaukee Irish Fest, and performed the National Anthem several times at Wrigley Field, Soldier Field and the United Center.

For nearly 40 years, Lloyd and Warfel have performed over 750 concerts and educational programs throughout the United States as well as several radio and television performances.

Lloyd performs regularly with many ensembles and has written arrangements of popular and classical music for her woodwind quintet, Quintuplex. She also owns Tri-L-Co Music, a company that engages classical chamber music ensembles.

Warfel has toured the United States as a piano soloist and performed piano concertos with several Illinois orchestras. He is a retired faculty member of Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove and has appeared as a guest soloist with the Chicago Grant Park Orchestra and many other local ensembles.
