Geneva Public Works has fixed a water main break today at the southwest corner of Third and Hamilton streets in the downtown, the second such break in as many days.
Public Works crews cleared its work zone from the corner of Third and Hamilton streets in the downtown.
Public works crews had completed an all-day repair project on a water main break Tuesday night on Seventh Street and then were called out before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for a second water main break.
Geneva spokesman Kevin Stahr stated in an email that generally speaking, water main breaks do occur from the cold weather and the ground shifting.
“The frigid temperatures Jan. 21 was likely the cause of the water main break at Seventh and Fulton streets,” Stahr’s email stated.
“Today’s incident ended up being classified as an abandoned water service line that was not disconnected from the water main,” Stahr’s email stated. “Crews were able to make that determination after digging underground to spot the water leak.”
