Geneva’s State Street down to 2 lanes as crews fix water main leak

Motorists should expect delays

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that lanes that have been closed for construction will reopen, where possible, but other closures will remain over the holiday weekend.

Geneva Public Works is responding to a water leak today, Wednesday, Jan. 29 on State Street, Illinois Route 38, near Anderson Boulevard, officials announced in a news release.

With crews on the scene, traffic is limited to two lanes, one in each direction.

The westbound curb lane has been shut down, according to the release.

Since traffic is being shifted to the center of the highway, the middle eastbound lane also had to be taken out of service temporarily.

Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider alternate routes.

Those proceeding through the work zone should use extra caution, according to the release.

Public Works is anticipating having the water leak repaired this afternoon before the evening rush hour.

The city will post an update when more information is made available.
