Super Bowl LIX will be held in New Orleans this weekend, and football fans nationwide will be hosting or attending parties for the big game on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 9.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office issued a public reminder Tuesday to celebrate responsibly and not to drive impaired. The statement heavily advocated for designating sober drivers.
“Fans don’t let fans drive drunk,” the statement said.
The Sheriff advised those attending Super Bowl celebrations involving alcohol or cannabis to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Those hosting parties were also encouraged to facilitate a safe ride home for every guest.
The Sheriff offered the following tips for a safe Super Bowl weekend:
- Impaired driving, whether under the influence of alcohol or marijuana, is never OK.
- Designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or ride service to get home safely.
- Those who suspect another driver is impaired should contact law enforcement.
- Those hosting parties should collect keys and plan ahead to coordinate safe rides for their guests.
- Friends should take action to prevent their friends from driving impaired.
- Always buckle up.
Walking impaired can also be dangerous, according to the statement, which suggested designating a sober friend to accompany walkers.
