GENEVA – Geneva District 304 Superintendent Kent Mutchler said Friday that he has taken himself out of consideration for the superintendent position at Dubuque Community School District in Dubuque, Iowa.
Mutchler had been one of three finalists for the position, which would have required him to leave Geneva this year to begin working there by July 1. His current contract expires June 30, 2023.
Mutchler said he decided to stay, “For the sake of stability in the district.”
The district has had three major resignations this month alone. Two school board members – Alicia Saxton and Taylor Egan – who was board president – and as of Wednesday, Geneva Middle School North Principal Brenna Westerhoff.
According to the Dubuque Community School District website, dbqschools.org, the school board will hold a closed meeting at 4 p.m. today to discuss the superintendent search. The agenda indicates a return to open session but without action to follow.
