Waubonsee Community College student Madison Femia has turned her love of baseball into a career, as the Geneva resident gets ready to begin her new job with Major League Baseball.

According to a news release from Waubonsee, Femia will work as a video replay operator in New York City for the league. She was a participant of MLB’s Take the Field Program, which is designed to provide career and networking opportunities for women in baseball.

Femia played baseball for private leagues and softball for part of her high school career in Geneva, earning scholarships to play for a college team. She became the first woman to coach in the Frontier League, where she coached full-time for the Joliet Slammers, the release stated.

Today, Femia is an assistant coach for Waubonsee. She was the Chiefs’ team manager for the 2020-21 season. Her passion for baseball and coaching made it an easy choice to uproot from her Illinois home and move to New York, the release stated.

Femia plans to graduate from Waubonsee with her associate’s degree in business this May. She will move on to pursue her bachelor’s degree in international business while working for MLB.

Femia hopes to one day work as a coach in the major leagues.
