GENEVA – Geneva District 304 spokeswoman Laura Sprague put in her resignation, effective April 8, she confirmed via text Wednesday.
“It has been my privilege to serve in this school community,” Sprague stated via text.
Sprague worked at the district since the start of the 2017-18 school year, nearly five years ago.
At the time, she had 14 years of experience in journalism and business, according to a news release at the time.
Superintendent Kent Mutchler had stated in the release that there were more than 40 applications for the communications coordinator position “and Ms. Sprague rose to the top.”
“Given her background in both journalism and business, she is uniquely qualified for the position,” Mutchler had stated in the release.
“She has excellent skills in both verbal and written communication, and she has experience working with marketing research, social media, and website management,” Mutchler stated in the release. “Her skill set is the ‘complete package.’”
Sprague’s resignation follows the resignations earlier this month of two board members, Taylor Egan and Alicia Saxton, and Geneva Middle School North Principal Brenna Westerhoff.
Though Westerhoff resigned March 2, she is currently on paid leave until the end of her administrator contract on June 30, 2022.
This week, the school board appointed two people to fill the vacancies, Molly Ansari and Paul Radlinski.
Mutchler had been under consideration for a superintendent position in Dubuque, Iowa, but said he took himself out of the running for the sake of stability in the district. The Dubuque position was set to be filled by July 1, this year.
Mutchler’s contract expires June 30, 2023. The school board this week chose the search firm of Ray and Associates Inc., of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to assist in finding Mutchler’s replacement.
