U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Friday, a spokeswoman said.
The vaccine was made available to members of Congress because of government continuity guidelines, Press Secretary Amanda Roberts said in an email.
“The Congresswoman has always stated that she would get the vaccine as soon as possible,” Roberts said in the email. “So, today she joined her Democratic and Republican colleagues in Congress to do just that.”
Underwood represents Illinois’ 14th Congressional District, which includes parts of DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, DeKalb and Kendall counties.
