Kane Health Dept. probes COVID-19 outbreak at Geneva Home Depot

Stores typically have 300 employees, spokeswoman stated

GENEVA – The Kane County Health Department confirmed today that it is investigating a COVID-19 outbreak at Home Depot, 2111 S. Randall Road, Geneva.

Spokeswoman Susan Stack would not state how many people were involved in the outbreak, according to her email.

The Illinois Department of Public Health defines an outbreak as five or more cases linked to a common location during a 14-day period, according to its website, www.dph.illinois.gov. These linked cases also must be from different households and not already connected from other sources.

The store manager said he could not comment because it would violate HIPPA medical privacy laws and referred questions to its corporate office.

“We employ more than 300 associates in an average Home Depot store,” spokeswoman Margaret Smith stated in an email. “Our focus is the safety of our associates and customers, which is why we’ve implemented numerous safety measures including requiring masks, daily health checks for associates, social distancing and enhanced cleaning in addition to paid leave and time-off policies for associates.”
