Tornado confirmed in western Kane County, brief touchdowns reported near Campton Hills: NWS

Kane County remains under tornado watch until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down around 5:30 p.m. Monday and damaged a structure in western Kane County near Burlington.

According to meteorologist Ricky Castro at the Chicago office of the National Weather Service, there were reports of small tornadoes near Lily Lake and Campton Hills that did not cause any damage.

“There was a weak tornado near Lily Lake at 6:44 p.m., and there were reports of tornadoes in Maple Park, but nothing that was incredibly strong,” Castro said. “The most noteworthy damage was in Burlington, with structural damage on Plank Road near Engle Road. There were reports of brief tornadoes in open areas that didn’t hit trees or other structures.”

Castro said that the National Weather Service will continue to investigate the reports of tornadoes.

“It’ll be a little bit of time until we have an official number [of tornadoes]. There are no reports of injuries,” he said. “We had reports of funnel clouds and brief rotations in the St. Charles area, but we still have to assess, and there is a lot of information that we have to go through to see the exact number.”

Kane County and much of Northern Illinois remain under a tornado watch until 10 p.m.

Castro said that there is a possibility for more severe weather Tuesday afternoon.
