St. Charles Park District: Sportsplex means play time for all

As outdoor fall programs wind down, it’s time to start planning for indoor winter activities. The St. Charles Park District’s Sportsplex offers many options to rent space for pickup games or leagues. The Sportsplex lets little ones burn energy, and children can enroll in a Thanksgiving break sports camp.

The 62,500-square-foot facility, which was purchased by the park district in 2018, offers space to rent for individuals, families and teams. Make a reservation and choose between a half or full turf field to improve footwork with your soccer league, organize a flag football game with friends or schedule one-on-one athletic training with a coach. Reservations are available by the hour. Birthday party packages are available for use of the turf fields and multipurpose room.

Sportsplex hosts a structured activity time for families with young children during the week. Located in the activity room, Itsy Bitsy Playtime welcomes families from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through Dec. 30. Sportsplex will provide play equipment for your child. With Hula-Hoops, sports balls, movable blocks and more, there will be ample opportunity for your child to let their imagination take over. Children can play until they tire. Tickets are $2 and available online. Registration is required.

Other early childhood programs, in partnership with All Star Sports, are held at Sportsplex. For ages 3 to 6, you can choose between soccer, T-ball, golf and multi-sports. Your little ones will learn basic skills in a fun and safe environment from nationally certified All Star Sports coaches. Parent-Tot classes also are part of the lineup of winter programs.

Elementary-age children need a place to run around, especially when school is out and the temperature drops. During Thanksgiving break Nov. 22-24, Sportsplex will host sports camps for older children. Choose between soccer or junior flag football for ages 5 to 7. There is flag football for ages 7 to 10.

Constructed in 2001, the climate-controlled Sportsplex has two turf fields with spectator seating, multipurpose rooms, concession stand, front desk/registration area, sports performance center, athletic training spaces and administrative offices.

While All-Star Sports is the main contractor at Sportsplex, the park district also partners with Kale Training, Campton United Soccer, Chicago Soccer Academy, Tri-Cities Soccer Association, Silverhawks Softball and River City LaCrosse.

Sportsplex also provides soccer leagues throughout the year for adults.

Sportsplex is at 1400 Foundry St. in St. Charles.
