The Chicago Tribune says Million Dollar Quartet at Aurora’s Stolp Island Theatre is “an exuberant new take.” New City Stage describes it as “Oldies made edgy.” Now, thanks to the extended dates, you get a chance to take a walk back in time with this remarkable production. Rock out with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins as they come together for the greatest jam session in music history.
On December 4, 1956, Elvis, Johnny, Jerry Lee, and Carl met at Sun Studios in Memphis with record producer Sam Phillips. Sam’s dream was to keep his boys together for another year by extending Johnny Cash’s contract. Now, as you sit in the Tennessee studio (recreated in Stolp Island Theatre) watching the drama unfold, you’ll experience blues, country, gospel, and the roots of rock-n-roll!
Show dramaturg Devon Hayakawa explains the allure, “This show features music that’s lasted the test of time.” You’ll instantly recognize the classic chart-toppers like“Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,”“Walk the Line,”and more. Million Dollar Quartetresonates with music-loving audiences of all ages because there’s something edgy and universal about the appeal of rock and roll in its infancy that everyone can enjoy.
The raucous joy of Elvis and Jerry Lee, the desperate desire for recognition from Carl Perkins, and the unflappable spirit of Johnny Cash are what drove them to make such relatable music. Sam Phillips helps them navigate the intricacies of fame while also trying to keep Sun Studio alive to record more smash hits. These tunes never get old and still have people dancing in the aisles.
Due to popular demand, Million Dollar Quartethas been extended to run at Paramount’s Stolp Island Theatre through June 2025. For more information and to book your tickets, visit ParamountAurora.com or call 630.896.6666.
