Pelon Munoz scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the second overtime, his second of the game, to help South Elgin to a 3-2 victory over St. Charles North for its first Class 3A sectional title in school history.

St. Charles North used a combination of a versatile attack at the net and play behind the service line to get past Naperville Central (25-13, 25-18) to win its second straight Class 4A regional title.

Geneva girls volleyball sophomore Emma Peterson, who recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs along with four aces in a straight-sets victory over St. Charles East, is the Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week.

St. Francis took down St. Charles East in a Class 4A girls volleyball regional semifinal, while five other local volleyball teams opened their postseason slate with a win in the regional semifinals.

Wicho DelaPaz knocked in the game-winning goal in the 75th minute to help eighth-seeded St. Charles North continue its cinderella run with a 2-1 victory over fourth-seeded Dundee-Crown to advance to its first sectional final since 2017.

Haley Burgdorf put up 17 kills in her final game at her home court to lead St. Charles North to a straight sets victory over Downers Grove North
