Yorkville Christian senior Jaden Schutt, who this week led the Mustangs to the state tournament for the first time in school history, was named a unanimous selection to the Associated Press Class 1A All-State first team in voting announced Wednesday.
The Illinois All-State boys’ basketball teams are voted on by a statewide panel of sports writers, broadcasters and internet-site reporters. All media members covering high school basketball in the state were eligible to nominate and vote for players.
Schutt, who will play collegiately at Duke, was the only player across all four classes to be named unanimous All-State. Glenbard West senior Braden Huff was named in either the first or second team on all Class 4A ballots.
Schutt was joined on the Class 1A first team by Jalen Quinn of Tuscola, Benjamin Vandigo of Scales Mound, Danny Stephens of Augusta Southeastern and Kellen Henze of Lanark Eastland.
Yorkville Christian’s K.J. Vasser named to the Class 1A second team.
The Class 4A first team was made up of Huff, Whitney Young’s AJ Casey, Glenbrook South’s Nick Martinelli, Kenwood’s Darrin Ames and Bradley-Bourbonnais’ Owen Freeman.
The Class 3A first team was made up of Thornton’s Ty Rodgers, Oak Forest’s Robbie Avila, Simeon’s Jaylen Drane, Mount Carmel’s DeAndre Craig and East St. Louis’ Christian Jones.
The Class 2A first team was made up of Timothy Christian’s Ben VanderWal, St. Joseph-Ogden’s Ty Pence, Leo’s JaKeem Cole, DePaul Prep’s Dylan Arnett and Rockridge’s Nate Henry.
