OSWEGO – School District 308 is working to fill the second vacancy on its elected Board of Education since the end of last year.

The Board of Education will meet in closed session at 4 p.m. on March 23 at Oswego East High School to interview applicants for the open seat left by board President Donna Marino, who resigned last month.

The new school board member is expected to be named in April.

Marino was first elected to the SD308 board a four-year term on the board last April and then was subsequently elected by her board colleagues as president. She said her decision to leave the board was “very difficult” but “necessary for the well-being of herself and her family.”

Last December Ruth Kroner left the SD308 board because she and her family were moving out of the state. Kroner had announced her intentions earlier in the fall.

In Kroner’s place, the board appointed Dominick Cirone.

With Marino’s departure, the school board elected LaTonya Simelton as president. The board subsequently elected Eugene Gatewood as board vice-president.

Other board members include Jennifer Johnson, Alison Swanson and Lauri Doyle.
