Railroad crossing on Kennedy Road in Yorkville to close next Monday for repairs

With the safety gate down and red light flashing, a train rolls through the Elm Street railroad crossing Thursday afternoon. The city was again denied funding to install safety improvements at the crossing here and on New York Avenue. If the improvements can be made, Creston will become a Quiet Zone where train conductors are no longer required to sound horns at crossings.

The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railway has notified city of Yorkville officials that it will close its rail crossing on Kennedy Road next week for repairs.

In a statement, city officials said the railway plans to close the crossing at 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28 through late Friday, Dec. 2.

Traffic on Kennedy Road will be detoured through the nearby Grande Reserve subdivision south of the rail crossing and on Mill Road north of the crossing.
