Oswego Presbyterian Church to host plastic foam recycling event

Jennifer Hawker, a volunteer from the Oswego Presbyterian Church, packages up styrofoam for recycling.

Plastic foam, also referred to as polystyrene or Styrofoam, will be collected at Oswego Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 4 in the church parking lot at 1976 Illinois Route 25.

Any foam materials with the PS6 symbol will be accepted.

Rinsed foam cups and food containers should be put in a tied-up plastic bag, and packaging foam should be in a separate bag. Foam insulation cannot be accepted, according to a news release from the church.

Foam ‘peanuts’, bubble wrap and other reusable packaging material will also be collected for recycling in a separate bag, as well as holiday lights.

The church receives no compensation for the materials collected.

It is taken to Dart Inc.’s recycle center, located at 310 Evergreen Drive, North Aurora.

This event is an educational service to let the community know that polystyrene is recyclable and that the community is fortunate to have this recycling collection center nearby, according to the release.

Foam should not be dropped off at the church outside this event.
