Plano Library to host book clubs, a card making class and more in January

Plano Community Library District has numerous programs and events planned for January.

Adult Programs:

Writers’ Group: From 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 9, 23 and 30, writers will come together in person in the library’s meeting room or via Zoom to discuss projects. This event is open to adults and high school students. No registration required. Zoom meeting ID is 988 2555 0591 and passcode is 048559.

New Life for Old Bags: From 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 11, attendees will help turn plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless in the library’s meeting room. For more information, contact Ceil Carey at jackandceil@att.net or 708-846-1704. No registration required.

Book Club - “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus: From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, attendees will come together to read and discuss books in the library’s meeting room. Books are available at the Checkout Desk. New members are welcome any time. No registration required.

Technology Help Desk: From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, tech expert Joshua Carlson will be at the library to answer questions regarding computers, cell phones, tablets, etc. From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., tech expert Steve Goodwin will be at the library. Attendees should bring devices with them for the best experience. This event takes place in the library’s upper level.

Painting with Petite Palette: From 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, an artist from The Petite Palette will lead the class in creating an acrylic on canvas painting in the library’s meeting room. Each month will feature a different painting, which will be announced closer to the class date. This event is open to high school students and adults. There is a $15 fee for each class that must be paid at the time of registration.

Senator Sue Rezin’s Traveling Office Hours: From 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, a representative from Senator Sue Rezin’s office will be at the library to assist constituents with navigating issues they face with any state or government agency or program. No registration required.

Card Making Class - Valentine’s Day Cards: From 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, attendees will make Valentine’s Day cards with Jennifer Boring in the library’s meeting room. All supplies are provided, including envelopes. This event is open to adults, high school students and children 10 and older accompanied by an adult. A $5 fee for each class must be paid at the time of registration.

Knit and Crochet Group (via Zoom): From 10 a.m. to noon every Thursday, this group will come together to work on projects, discuss types and colors of yarn and help each other with new or tricky patterns. No registration required. The Zoom meeting link is available on the Programs page of the library’s website at planolibrary.info.

Knit and Crochet Group (In person): From 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday beginning Jan. 6, attendees can knit and crochet with others in the library’s lower level meeting room. This event is open to all ages. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.

Kids’ Programs:

Create Art with Petite Palette: From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, children ages 6 to 10 will create a “Polar Lights” painting led by an artist from The Petite Palette. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., children ages 10 to 18 will create a “Frosted Mountain Air” painting.

Homeschool Families Meetup: From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tursdays, Jan. 14 and 28, homeschool parents and their children (all ages) can mingle in the library’s kids’ program room. Toys and games will be provided for children to enjoy. Attendees can bring a board game along. This is not a drop-off program. No registration required.

Pizza and Pages: From 5 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, children in grades fourth through sixth can come together to read and discuss a book in the library’s meeting room. Pizza will be provided. Registration required.
