Montgomery man charged with gunfire incident on New Year’s Day

A Montgomery man has been charged after gunfire was heard outside his house shortly after midnight New Year’s Day.

Juan Sanchez, 23, of the 1300 block of Raymond Drive, was charged with the felony charge of reckless discharge of a weapon, according to a news release from the Montgomery Police Department.

About midnight Jan. 1, the Montgomery Police Department responded to a report of shots fired on the village’s east side in the 1300 block of Raymond Drive. Officers officers arriving at the scene found shell casings and live ammunition outside of a house with multiple occupants, according to the release.

Sanchez, who has a valid Firearm Owners Identification card, was contacted and admitted to discharging firearms and consented to a search of the house, according to the release.

Officers seized three handguns and additional ammunition during the search, according to the release. Responding officers determined there was no further threat to public safety.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charge. The Montgomery Police Department reminds the public that the reckless use of a firearm is a serious offense that poses significant risks to public safety.
