Church in Plano collecting care packages essential items for local homeless

Packages intended to help the needy during the winter months

First Lutheran Church of Plano is collecting care packages, called “Blessing Bags,” for the local homeless.

To help the most vulnerable among us during the cold winter months, the First Lutheran Church of Plano is collecting care packages, called “Blessing Bags,” for the local homeless.

Community members are invited to drop off toiletries and essential items at the church’s location at 200 N. Center Street in Plano. There is a 24/7 accessible bin inside the doors located on the Clark street entrance of the church, according to a release.

“As you clean out your bathroom closets or shop locally, please consider donating to this worthwhile cause,” the church said in the release. “To show an act of love for our neighbors, volunteers plan to begin assembling the Blessing Bags on Valentine’s Day weekend.”

Items the church is collecting include: toothbrush, small toothpaste, travel soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion, chapstick, small package Kleenex and wipes, granola bars or cracker packs, mints, black socks and gloves.

Monetary donations are accepted to purchase $5 gift cards.

If you are unable to drop off your donations, you can schedule a pick-up by calling Kathy Benoit at 630-816-3366, according to the release.
