Former Yorkville doctor receives 37 year prison sentence for criminal sexual assault of a minor

Edgar Archbold, 73, of Yorkville

A former Yorkville doctor has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for seven counts of criminal sexual assault of a minor.

Edgar Archbold, 73, of Yorkville, received the sentence following a contested sentencing hearing on Jan. 3 in front of Kendall County Judge Jody Gleason, according to a news release from Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis. He previously pleaded guilty in October 2024 as his jury trial was scheduled to start.

He will have to serve a minimum of 85% of his sentence, which amounts to Archbold spending the rest of his life in prison given his age, Weis said.

“Archbold took advantage of his position as a trusted doctor to violate a teenager who relied on him for treatment and employment,” Weis said in a statement. “It is her bravery, coupled with the work of law enforcement, that ensures that Archbold will be behind bars for the rest of his life – exactly where he should be.”

Archbold, was charged following an investigation that began in April 2023, Weis said.

The victim had disclosed to their mother and then to law enforcement that, for about nine months, Archbold had committed sexual acts at both his business and at his home in Yorkville, Weis said.

The victim came forward when questioned by a parent about the ongoing abuse, but the victim expressed fear that Archbold would seek retribution, according to Weis.

Members of the Yorkville Police Department obtained a judicial overhear order and during a recorded telephone conversation, Archbold admitted to many of the acts, Weis said.
