Japanese-inspired home decor store set to open next month in Oswego

Oswego store is one of first Daiso stores in Illinois

Daiso is a 50 year-old family owned Japanese company that sells a variety of products – including Japanese inspired home decor, stationery, food and more – at affordable prices.

A store specializing in Japanese-inspired home decor is set to open its doors next month in the former Famous Footwear space in the Oswego Commons shopping center on Route 34.

The store is located at 3040 Route 34 in Oswego. A grand opening for Daiso is set for 9 a.m. Feb. 8, according to an announcement in the store’s window.

The first 100 customers will receive an exclusive goodie bag with a $30 purchase. Grand opening festivities will continue through Feb. 9. The store will open at 10 a.m. that day.

Daiso recently opened its first store in Illinois at Hinsdale Lake Commons in Willowbrook. A grand opening is set for 11 a.m. Feb. 1 for a Daiso store at 618 S. Randall Road in South Elgin and a store is set to open soon in Crystal Lake.

“We’ve been receiving tremendous interest from customers in Illinois, and we’re eager to offer them the Daiso experience,” John Clarke, chief development officer for Daiso USA, said in a news release.

The Oswego Commons shopping center continues to gain new tenants. Last year, VASA Fitness opened in the long-vacant former Dominick’s building in the shopping center. The space at 3010 Route 34 had been vacant since the grocery store closed in 2013.
