Erika Smiley recorded a hat trick with three goals and had an assist, Anya Gulbrandsen had two goals and three assists Riley Gumm scored two goals, as the Wolves (13-0, 11-0) capped off an unbeaten regular season and won the Southwest Prairie Conference championship for the first time in program history.
SOFTBALL
Yorkville 4, Oswego 1
Madi Reeves struck out 13 in a three-hitter, Mackenzie Melzer went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Foxes (19-4, 9-1) clinched the outright championship of the Southwest Prairie West. Caitlin Hartsell struck out six for Oswego.
BASEBALL
Yorkville 7, Plainfield North 2
Owen Ross struck out 11 over six innings, and slugged a grand slam to cap off a five-run fifth inning as the Foxes took the rubber game of the three-game series with Plainfield North. Connor Corrigan also homered and Cole Yearsley had a triple.
Minooka 9, Oswego 3
Joel Johnson was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Brady Peterlin tripled and drove in a run, but the Panthers (17-7, 10-5) had their eight-game winning streak snapped as Minooka avoided a sweep of the three-game series.
Oswego East 7, West Aurora 4
Donavan Zielke got the win with five solid innings and helped his cause with two hits as the Wolves won the rubber game of the three-game series. Jonas Gulbrandsen, Nick Caruso and Camden Ruby all had doubles.
Plano 5, Hinckley-Big Rock 2
Anthony Santoria pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and Manny Marin had two hits, including a double, for the Reapers (13-12). Nick Baltierrez had two hits and Vinny Maye added a double.
Newark 9, Yorkville Christian 6
Dalton Reibel earned the victory for the Norsemen, as he surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out five. Tegan Kruser threw one inning in relief.
Jake Kruser was 2-for-3 with a double at the plate for the Norsemen (17-1).
Bryce Salek was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs and Blake Salek 3-for-4 with an RBI for Yorkville Christian (14-7).
WRESTLING
West Aurora 41, Oswego 27
Oswego’s Zach Sato (145 pounds) earned a pin, Joseph Griffin (170) a decision and Michael Sturm (285) a pin in contested matches.
