Montgomery police are investigating the death of a person who appears to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Feb. 18.

Police were dispatched to a domestic-related call for service involving a mental health crisis in the 2000 block of Gallant Fox Circle. Prior to officer’s arrival, the individual left the scene of the residence on foot with a firearm in his possession.

Residents of the area were ordered to shelter in place. That order has since been lifted and police said there is no threat to the public.

At about 6:15 a.m., the involved subject was found dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The identification of the individual will not be released at this time, police said.

Multiple area public safety agencies responded to assist in the case, including the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Aurora Police Department, Oswego Police Department, Yorkville Police Department, Plano Police Department, Bristol-Kendall Fire Department, Kendall County Coroner’s Office, and KenCom Public Safety Dispatch.
