Oswego police are investigating a report of possible weapons on the grounds of Thompson Junior High School at 440 Boulder Hill Pass.
“Oswego Police took a report yesterday (Tuesday) regarding two juveniles who were in Thompson Junior High School with what was reportedly believed to be airsoft pistols or BB guns,” police said in a statement. “Police are investigating the incident with the school district.”
Thompson Principal Marcus Lewis sent a letter to parents Wednesday addressing the investigation.
“Yesterday evening we received a report of Thompson students in the school hallway while athletic practices were occurring. It was reported that one of the students had a weapon in their possession,” Lewis wrote. “Police were contacted yesterday evening and an investigation is underway.
“The Thompson administration has been and will continue to work closely with police throughout the investigation. Police were present at arrival this morning to support students and staff. We will also increase event supervision for the remainder of the winter athletic season.”
Lewis asked families to remind students that “no weapons, or anything resembling a weapon, are permitted on school grounds.”
“Also, please encourage your students to report anything suspicious or inappropriate to a trusted adult, ‘See something, say something.’ When we work together we can keep our school safe.”
The investigation is ongoing. Those with information are asked to contact the Oswego police at 630-551-7300.
