With a COVID-19 vaccine gradually being distributed throughout Kendall County and surrounding areas, some residents are beginning to wonder about the fate of community events in 2021 that had been canceled in 2020 due to the continuing pandemic.
Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent of Recreation Shay Remus reported the department is examining ways to hold popular community events in this year while still following state guidelines.
“At this time, we do not have any of our larger events confirmed as we are waiting to receive more details from the state on COVID-19 restrictions,” Remus said Jan. 11.
“We continue to plan and create soft outlines of what the events would look like so we are prepared if/when they are allowed.”
Many community events were either canceled outright or shifted to a socially-distanced format in 2020, including Yorkville’s tree lighting ceremony and visits with Santa Claus.
Information about community events can be found on the United City of Yorkville website.
