Yorkville High School Principal David Travis said that school administrators are working out plans for the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2021.
“We are working through the planning process now,” Travis said in a statement to the Kendall County Record and KendallCountyNow.com. “We should have some draft plans soon.”
In recent years, Yorkville High School seniors have graduated at Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center. However, plans changed in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, seniors graduated in an unorthodox “drive-in” style ceremony at the field next to the school. Students sat in the passenger seats of cars filled with family and friends, and watched speeches from the class salutatorian, valedictorian and class speaker.
To receive their diplomas, students lined up on either side of the stage - but this year in white masks with the YHS fox emblazoned in the corner and several feet apart from each other. They then returned to their cars, and tossed their caps with their families next to them.
The Yorkville High School calendar for the 2020-2021 school year currently lists Friday, May 21 as the graduation date.
