City of Yorkville officials are remembering City Clerk Lisa Pickering, 51, for her many years of work and dedication to the city.

Pickering, 51, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 10 at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

“She kept everything and everybody organized, including myself,” Mayor John Purcell said in a statement issued by the city Wednesday, July 14. “She was a dedicated member of the community and was an integral part of the City of Yorkville staff. Her absence will be greatly felt by all.”

Pickering had been a city staffer since December 2003. Prior to her appointment by Purcell as city clerk in May of 2019, she had served in other positions for the city, including receptionist, clerk’s office assistant, administrative assistant, deputy city clerk and executive assistant.

Pickering was also a Certified Municipal Clerk, per the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and a Registered Municipal Clerk, per the Municipal Clerks of Illinois.

In the statement, city officials ask city residents to keep the Pickering family in their thoughts as they go through this difficult time. Pickering is survived by her husband, Tyler A. Pickering of Yorkville; her children, Jason Pickering of Milwaukee, WI, and Brianna Pickering of Yorkville; her mother, Karen Yackley; 6 brothers; 1 sister; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Pickering will take place on Tuesday, July 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, with a memorial service following at 7 p.m. that same evening.

The city will be making a donation to Gift of Hope on Pickering’s behalf, according to the statement.
