Sandwich School District 430 will not require students or staff to wear masks while in school for the 2021-22 school year.
In an email sent to the Sandwich Record July 23 amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the district confirmed that it does not have a masking mandate or policy “requiring students and staff to disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status and/or decision to wear or not wear a mask while in person at school/work.”
Although masks will not be required, the email did remind parents, students and staff that, “All individuals (age 2 and older), who are not fully vaccinated, should wear masks inside.
“Consistent and correct mask use by people, who are not fully vaccinated, is especially important indoors and in crowded settings, when physical distancing cannot be maintained.”
The school district will not tolerate “bullying of individuals for wearing or not wearing a mask,” the email read.
Masks will be required for all students and staff while traveling on a bus.
Any changes before the start of the school year will be shared with the Sandwich School District 430 community. The school year begins Thursday, Aug. 19.
