Plano ‘Smallville’ 10-year anniversary event planned for Aug. 21

Event to feature comic vendors, food trucks, a DJ, raffles and costume contest.

Superman walks in last year's Smallville Super Parade in Plano.

It’s been ten years since Superman movie “Man of Steel” filmed in Plano, and a festival to commemorate the anniversary is set for later this month pending a thumbs up from city council.

The “Smallville Comic Con” is planned for Saturday, Aug. 21 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Depot in downtown Plano. The event will feature comic vendors, food trucks, a DJ, an art gallery of the filming and costume contests, according to a flyer.

A city special events committee heard from organizer Jim Martens Wednesday night, Aug. 4, who is requesting a road block-off at the Depot, porta potties and electricity from the city.

“Everything’s coming along great,” Martens said, who has helped organize Plano’s Smallville SUPERFEST in years past.

“It’ll be a great event for what we’ve planned,” he added.

Martens also commended downtown toy store Batcave Treasurers, who is sponsoring the event. A final approval for the Smallville Comic Con’s event request will be before the Plano City Council next Monday, Aug. 9.
