The high school softball season starts this week. Here are five players to watch in the Record Newspapers coverage area.

Ellie Alvarez, Yorkville, senior, shortstop: Top hitter back for Foxes’ team that went 24-5 last spring and won school’s first sectional title. Alvarez, a Bellarmine commit, hit .432 and provides a ton of experience with this her fourth season on varsity.

Madye Greenwood, Oswego East, senior, right fielder: Lefty-hitting Benedictine commit led Wolves with .462 batting average last spring with 30 hits and 16 RBIs. Greenwood also plays a pretty good right field, with a .974 fielding percentage last spring.

Madi Reeves, Yorkville, junior, pitcher: Fireballing right-hander burst onto the high school scene last year, going 20-4 with a 0.968 ERA and 341 strikeouts to lead 24-5 Foxes to first sectional title. What will she do for an encore?

Morgan Robertson, Oswego East, senior, catcher: Powerful left-handed bat hit .381 last spring with five homers and 27 RBIs, both team-highs. The Butler commit is also very good defensively – she had a perfect fielding percentage as a junior.
