Police seek information in Mundelein shooting death

Wheeling man, 21, died of gunshot wound after being dropped off at hospital

MUNDELEIN -- Lake County Major Crime Task Force members and Mundelein Police detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old Wheeling man.

About 7:10 p.m. Dec. 9, Mundelein police officers responded to a report of shots fired in a parking lot located in the 700 block of South Lake Street, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a man had been shot and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in a privately owned vehicle. Despite efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased, police said.

Whoever took the man to the hospital left before officers arrived, according to the release.

The deceased has been identified as Luis Moreno, 21, of Wheeling. An autopsy conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office on Dec. 10 indicated that Moreno died from multiple gunshot wounds.
