Great Lakes Credit Union announces coat drive results

Effort helps Cradles to Crayons provide winter gear to children and families

BANNOCKBURN – Great Lakes Credit Union announced it collected 837 items for the community through its annual coat drive in November.

Given that one in two children in Chicago is at risk of experiencing clothing insecurity, winter can be a dangerous time for families and children in need of coats and cold weather gear, according to a news release.

To help address this need, GLCU partnered with Cradles to Crayons to provide winter coats and gear to children and families in the Chicago area.

GLCU placed donation boxes in its branches and corporate headquarters and asked its members and employees to donate gently used or new winter items for children, women and men. GLCU reported it collected more items in 2024 than in 2023.

“Community giveback is a key part of GLCU’s mission of banking for a greater good,” Patrick Basler, GLCU’s chief experience officer, said in the release. “We’re proud to help local families receive the warmth and comfort they need this winter.”
