GURNEE – The Gurnee Park District announced the appointment of Michael “Mike” Szpylman as its new executive director effective May 1.

Szpylman will succeed Susie Kuruvilla, who will be retiring April 30 after 27 years of service with the Gurnee Park District.

Szpylman, his wife, Vick, and their three daughters, Emily, Natalie and Audrey, all share a passion for the Gurnee Park District. For many years, the family has been actively involved in programs and events, fostering a deep connection to the community.

“We are excited to work with Mike as we continue to enrich the lives of our community members through exceptional recreational experiences,” Gurnee Park District Board president James Goshorn said in the release.
