WAUKEGAN – The Lake County Health Department and partners Baxter and Curative announced the opening of a new COVID-19 vaccination site April 20 in Round Lake Beach.
The new site, 400 E. Rollins Road (the former Kmart Supercenter) will offer indoor COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment to all ages 16 and older who live or work in Lake County at no cost.
When vaccine supply allows the facility to reach its peak capacity of 5,000 vaccinations a day, this will be the largest vaccination site in the county.
“We are thrilled to announce this location for COVID-19 vaccinations, a culmination of extensive planning and collaboration with our partners,” said Mark Pfister, executive director at the Lake County Health Department. “This site will improve access for those who live and work in Lake County to receive a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine, the best tool we have to protect our families and communities.”
Vaccinations will be offered by appointment only from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Residents may schedule appointments at cur.tv/lakeco.
“Baxter is committed to saving and sustaining lives worldwide and here in Lake County, home to our headquarters and facilities that provide critical manufacturing and research and development,” said Dr. Sumant Ramachandra, president of pharmaceuticals and senior vice president, chief science and technology officer at Baxter. “We are proud to work with local partners to increase availability of COVID-19 vaccinations in the community, and will continue doing everything we can to support our employees, patients, the health care system and the communities we serve to help end this global pandemic.”
Those who are registered in AllVax, Lake County’s COVID-19 vaccination portal, and opted to share their registration information with vaccination partners may be contacted by Curative to schedule an appointment at the Round Lake Beach site.
“It’s an honor for Curative to deliver vaccination deployment in the Lake County community. This is a significant moment in history, and we are ready to bring these lifesaving vaccines to people who need them,” said Isaac Turner, CIO and co-founder of Curative. “Curative has disrupted the traditional health care delivery system by rapidly scaling COVID-19 testing at thousands of sites across the country in a matter of months and administering the flu vaccine. Now we are eager to put our proven model to work for the COVID-19 vaccine.”
