Several improvement projects in the west Lake County area are scheduled to get underway beginning this spring, the Illinois Department of Transportation said in a news release.
The six projects represent a total investment of more than $24 million for the region, with $21 million coming from Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital program passed in 2019, according to the release.
Projects include:
• Rand Road, also known as Route 12 from Old Rand Road to Main Street, also state Route 22 at that location: Resurfacing project with new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk ramps.
Daily lane closures needed to complete the project, which began earlier this spring and is expected to be completed this summer.
• Route 60 from Belvidere Road, also known as state Route 120 at that location, to Illinois 176: Ongoing patching and resurfacing project, with milled rumble strips and new shoulders.
Daytime lane closures with one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will be required. The project started last fall and is expected to be completed this summer.
• Route 60 at Wilson Road: Intersection improvement with culvert extension and replacement.
Daytime lane closures with one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will be required. The project is scheduled to begin this summer and completed this fall.
• Buckley Road, also known as Route 83, from Belvidere Road to Route 137: The project will reconstruct and realign the intersection and install a new traffic signal.
One lane in each direction will be maintained on Buckley Road and Route 137. During the second stage of construction, a closure will be required for about 10 weeks at the Metra Union Pacific North crossing, which means traffic will be detoured. The project is scheduled to begin spring 2022 and completed in 2023.
• Route 173 at Lake Street, west of Route 59: The intersection will be widened, a new traffic signal installed and drainage improved.
One lane in each direction will be maintained on Route 173 and Lake Avenue. The project is scheduled to begin this summer and completed in summer 2023.
• Route 173 from Wilmot Road to Lake Street and from Orchard Street to west of Deep Lake Road: Pavement preservation and microsurfacing project.
Daily lane closures will be necessary to complete the project, which is scheduled to begin this spring and completed this summer.
