No tickets issued in Spring Grove fatal crash so far

Head-on collision sent both drivers to hospital where one died of his injuries, police say

A Spring Grove crash that killed an Algonquin man on Monday has resulted in no tickets, the Spring Grove Police Department said Tuesday.

McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein identified the man who died as 27-year-old Antonio Colon. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The head-on collision occurred about 11:05 a.m. Monday in the 8100 block of Wilmot Road, Spring Grove Fire Protection District Chief Paul Klicker previously told the Northwest Herald.

One of the drivers was extricated from their vehicle, Klicker said. Both people were taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.

Spring Grove police said in a news release Tuesday that the crash involved a blue Pontiac G6 and a black Ford F-150. The driver of the Pontiac suffered injuries that were life-threatening from the collision.

A LifeNet Emergency Medical Services Air Helicopter responded to the scene, but because of the Pontiac driver’s condition, he was taken by the Spring Grove Fire Protection District to an area emergency room, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the release.

The person who drove the black Ford received injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to an area emergency room as well, Spring Grove said in the release.

Preliminary information from an ongoing investigation shows the Pontiac was driving north in the 8100 block of Wilmot Road when it veered into the southbound lane for an unknown reason, striking the Ford head on, according to the release.

Additional information will be released upon the conclusion of an investigation by the Major Crash Assistance Team, Spring Grove police said.

The crash assistance team includes members from the Cary, Harvard, Johnsburg, McHenry, Spring Grove and Woodstock police departments.
