DEERFIELD – U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Deerfield, announced the application window for 10th District Community Project Funding requests for fiscal 2023 will open April 5. The deadline to apply is April 13.

Through the CPF process, Schneider is able to advocate for federal funding for some of the highest priority projects in the 10th District.

“My top priority in Congress is improving the lives of constituents and helping communities tackle the challenges confronting them,” Schneider said in a news release. “Often, issues that communities face have commonsense solutions but need a bit of financial support to be achieved. This year, I am grateful that I was able to deliver nearly $20 million in funding for projects across the 10th District – from expanding capacity of our local food pantries to training workers for better-paying jobs to preventing flooding in our streets. I look forward to reviewing this year’s community project funding requests and identifying important investment opportunities and needs for 10th District communities and residents for the upcoming fiscal year.”

Schneider’s staff will host informational webinars about the application process.

For fiscal 2023, Schneider can submit 15 projects from across the district to help improve lives of constituents. The Community Project Funding process allows members of Congress to direct funding toward specific projects in their districts. The process previously was referred to as “earmarks” but has since been revamped to include strict ethics and transparency requirements following a decade-long hiatus. Only governmental or nonprofit (501)(c) entities are eligible to apply for CPF funding. For-profit entities and individuals are barred from applying to the CPF process.

In fiscal 2022, Schneider secured funding for all 10 community project requests submitted by his office. These projects received nearly $20 million in federal funding and will help build a much needed sidewalk, solve longstanding flooding issues, grow the economy, better train the workforce and keep communities healthy and safe.

Interviews with applicants will take place from April 14 to 28. Finalists will be notified April 29 and projects will be submitted to the House Appropriations Committee.
