Coal City Intermediate School to have asbestos removed

Coal City Intermediate School in Coal City.

Workers will be removing asbestos from Coal City Intermediate School starting Monday running through Friday, Nov. 22.

The school has already been closed due to concern over structural issues on the north wall and roof in the north gym.

Jason Smith, the school’s Chief School Business Officer, said all areas affected by the project will be clearly marked and isolated with a visible barrier, and air quality both inside and outside the contained area will be monitored.
